For many people, adventure is something that happened once upon a time, before “real life” set in. For others, it’s something you dream about, and hope to do….someday. In today’s episode of Guts & Grace, Sharon Stokes & I take a deep dive into discussing how choosing adventure leads to a fulfilling life – and bring you a friendly reminder that it’s something you can embrace today.

Inspired by our conversation, I wrote this little poem about adventure:

I remember canoe trips on unnamed lakes, rivers and pathways beckoning me

I remember scavenger hunts and walks in the woods, playing and feeling free

I remember singing in the band, the sound current flowing through and around and between

I remember zip-lining, my heart bursting open as I floated over the canopy

I remember the hope of next chapter choices, narrowing it down to three

I remember anticipation, bubbling up inside–life-affirming energy

I remember the uncertainty, ever-present but not enough to stop me

I remember the fullness of following through, satisfied completely

I remember wanting, hoping, waiting

I remember planning, organizing, arranging

I remember hesitating, questioning…continuing

I remember allowing, pursuing, fulfilling

Funny. I don’t remember stopping.

It’s just that one day, I found myself carrying on,

Doing what needed to be done, barely noticing

That I had somehow let my dreams die along the way.

I remember, and now is the time. I’m reclaiming adventure in my life.

In this episode, we take a deep dive into choosing adventure to shape your life. Sharon reminds us that adventures can be any size – even trying a new coffee shop counts! When we open ourselves up to new experiences, we always grow a little and take one step closer to life fulfillment.
